While stuck indoors during Hurricane Harvey, Mother and son Casey Achgill and Ayden decided to play around with some fun ideas for shooting. Casey stated that Ayden “usually gets bored, but he really enjoyed this shoot.”

Gothesque Jr: Tell us about creating this work.
Photographer, Casey Achgill: “This shoot was a lot of fun. We shot it in one of our bathrooms (less of a mess to clean up with the paint). I used a boom to light him from above and give that nice dramatic look. I worked with my Canon and my favorite lens, the 50mm. I tried to make it as moody as possible. We’re a family that loves dark things, and while being cooped up, it was the perfect time to let the creative juices flow.”
Gothesque Jr: Are you excited for Halloween?
Model, Ayden: “Yes, I am, not to mention my birthday is just a few days before. I turn 11 this year.”
Gothesque Jr: What will you be doing this year for Halloween, and what will you be?
Model, Ayden: “This year I will be trick or treating with my family in our new neighborhood, and I will be Harry Potter.”
Photographer, Casey Achgill: “This Halloween, my husband and I are taking our two wildlings out trick or treating and enjoying family time. We always make Halloween a big deal, and the kids always look amazing!”
Gothesque Jr: What is your favorite day of the week, and why?
Model, Ayden: “My favorite day of the week is Saturday because I get to stay up late and hang out with my family.”
Gothesque Jr: Do you feel that being a model and photographer helps your photography work and vice versa?
Photographer, Casey Achgill: “I feel like I do have an advantage on certain aspects knowing both sides of the camera. Being behind it, I can relate to the person in front and boost their confidence. I’ve always been creative, and once I picked up the camera, it just amplified.”
Gothesque Jr: Tell us about being a model for the Pink Mink Mafia. What does this entail?
Photographer, Casey Achgill: “I’ve been a freelance model for a few years now. My style has gone from cute cupcake to alternative looking nowadays. I don’t model as often, but I do love it when I do.”
Gothesque Jr: What is your astrological sign? Do you think it fits your personality?
Model, Ayden: “My mom says I’m a Scorpio and I do favor some traits haha.”
Gothesque Jr: Were you affected by Hurricane Harvey at all living in Houston?
Photographer, Casey Achgill: “Thankfully, we were extremely lucky during Harvey. All around us was deep underwater, and by some amazing chance, our complex didn’t flood. It was so incredibly heartbreaking to see two blocks down completely destroyed. We had just moved to this area, and I found out our old place was underwater, and I just can’t imagine what all of our old neighbors were dealing with losing everything.”
Gothesque Jr: What’s the greatest thing about being you?
Model, Ayden: “That’s hard. The greatest thing about me would be that I stick up for people and try to help everyone.”
